I made this 3D Rudolf using an X-Cut Die. new in shops on the 1st July 2013
I'd already made a plain one to see how it went together and then I chose to change a few
things to make a Rudolf and to be able to stick it flat onto a card.
things to make a Rudolf and to be able to stick it flat onto a card.
Firstly I cut out the sections of the die once.
I then cut the side and the back out a second time.
The nose I recut in red card and the antlers in beige card.
when I put the two sides onto the back section I bent the tabs down and added double sided tape so I could stick the other back onto it later.
It was at this stage I felt the shape I had could be reused as an angels body wit wings, so will have a further play with that at a later date.
Once you've stuck the back bit down you need to turn it back over, bend and crease the sides back up and together. I struggled getting the nose on the first one I made so this time I'm gluing the end of the nose together to help with slotting the rest in place.
I covered the brown card antlers in the cream card and gave old Rudolf a fringe.
Once they were all slotted in they looked like this.
At this stage if you want to hang the head on the wall you can add cord like this...
Then they go back to back and you can't see all the messy bits.
I chose to leave the cord off this time as I was sticking it onto a card which was already decorated with cord (Twine) and it would have looked too much. Plus I'd have had to make vertical greetings down each side. I also added 3D gloss to the nose and antlers to ensure they didn't fall off.
The sentiment I stuck flat at the sides and added DS foam pads in the middle so it bowed out like Rudolf. The ribbon I added across the card after I stuck Rudolf on. This was to make the card not look so top heavy.
The ribbon I used was from this pack, also due out on July 1st.
So go to your nearest Do Crafts stockist on the first to see all the new stuff Do Crafts are bringing out. There's a new character called Tilly Daydream too and she is as cute as a button.
Hope you liked my Tips on using this die.
